AI Policy is a good first step for addressing AI in schools. While policy establishes vision, it needs to be accompanied by clear procedure and exemplars for teachers to follow. There should also be a companion scope and sequence for skills development with AI.

I’d be happy to share what we have done to address this.

    What are you passionate about?

I am dedicated to ensuring the safety of staff alongside promoting responsible digital citizenship among our students. It is important for students, as well as their parents, to understand the significance of giving our staff members digital space and respect. This means communication between teachers, students, and parents is through appropriate professional channels.

Additionally, staff need to be mindful of ways to conduct themselves in their professional and personal digital lives to ensure their safety – from phishing scams all the way through to not adding former students on social media. We can’t expect staff to know this without support.

I think generally that we have lots of student-centred reviews and discussions, but sometimes the needs of staff are sidelined.

What can you do to help us all learn?

I can share my experience in building a tech program from the ground up, both at the infrastructure and academic levels, within the context of an international school in China. This could be valuable for peers who are new to China or considering a tech revamp at their schools. I can offer insights into how tech directors can build a culture of innovation, lead change, make informed decisions, and develop simple yet effective systems and processes for problem-solving.

What are you passionate about that would benefit us?
Aside from my love for motorcycles and extreme travel, I’ve discovered that problem-solving and empowering teachers and students through technology have become true passions in my work. It brings me great joy to walk around the campus and see teachers effectively integrating technology (AI, tools, digital citizenship, etc.) to enhance teaching and learning.
