    Project Title: Habitat Map Creation

Overview: Students will create a habitat map that emphasizes how various habitats meet the needs of the living organisms that inhabit them. They have the flexibility to choose their preferred method for creating the habitat map, which may include options such as a poster, a computer program/presentation, a song, or a dance.

Objective: This project aims to connect with our Unit of Inquiry (UOI): “What Living Things Need to Survive,” while also integrating our specialist classes. I plan to involve specialist teachers as experts to support students in developing their ideas effectively.

Target Group: I teach PYP1, so I anticipate this project to be a significant undertaking. However, I believe it will provide students with a sense of agency and allow them to explore their creative freedoms.

I am excited to see this happening! I might tap on the knowledge of how to make things interactive.

That would be amazing! My main idea for the ‘interactive element’ is that it expands beyond a drawing of a map. Maybe the interactive element is flaps with more information or maybe they make a play. I feel like there’s a lot of potential and would love to expand on and cement what that can look like and how best to facilitate it.

Hi Ryan, I could also share some tech tools we have used to make it more interactive using code. I look forward to connecting with you and Khim.

Absolutely I will be making a way for specialists to connect and assist with this and sharing it shortly. Thank you!

Love the idea of students exploring their creative freedoms. Something I’m thinking about is how could you make the product public and help it to have a purpose beyond the students creating it? e.g. could the maps be used to inform students in a lower year about the topic?
