Reading Strategies
Session 3 is all about STRATEGIES!
We will discuss and share resources in our next session (January 17) but feel free to start the discussion now by commenting below. We have previously started a padlet as our strategy collection method, this could be something we continue to develop and will help with organization. Add your resources here!
Below are some questions to guide your thinking and discussion of reading strategies we can use in all our classrooms.
- What reading strategies have you found most effective in promoting comprehension and engagement among students in your classroom?
- How do you incorporate pre-reading activities to activate prior knowledge and enhance students’ understanding of the text?
- What techniques or approaches do you use to teach vocabulary in the context of reading? How do you ensure students grasp and retain new words?
- In what ways do you encourage active reading, such as annotation, highlighting, or note-taking? How do these strategies support students’ understanding and critical thinking skills?
- How do you differentiate reading instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners in your classroom? What strategies do you employ to support struggling readers and challenge advanced readers?
- What digital tools or resources do you utilize to enhance reading instruction? How do these technologies support students’ literacy development and engagement with the text?
- How do you foster a love for reading and encourage independent reading habits among your students? What strategies do you use to promote a positive reading culture in your classroom?
- How do you assess students’ reading skills and progress? What types of formative and summative assessments do you employ to evaluate their comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking abilities?
You can share your thoughts and resources below as a comment in preparation for our January Session! By adding to our padlet, we can ‘bookmark’ our strategy bank for use now and beyond!
