Hi, Everyone!

I hope you are well and looking forward to our next community meet up. With our next session approaching, I wanted to send over resources and give you a peek at our agenda.

Our session next week has an overarching theme, Supporting our Learners & Teachers, with the idea to offer an array of topics that members identified on previous surveys and through conversation during session 1. The topics of interest are noted below:

Breakout Room 1: Collaborative Teaching (Discussion Facilitated by Celina)

Breakout Room 2: An Intro to a Coaching Model (Discussion Facilitated by Keisha) (page 7 of resource)

Breakout Room 3: Assessment & Planning: WIDA & The ELDs (Discussion Facilitated by Darcy)

Breakout Room 4: An Instructional Model for Language Learning: SIOP

Breakout Room 5: Sharing our Experience: Teaching Strategies

During our session, we will participate in a Choice Board activity where you will select 3 areas of interest from the list above. Then, in breakout rooms community members can share and discuss a few questions related to each topic. A scribe will take notes to make our conversation/ideas/learning visible so that others can review our collective thinking later if wanted.

For now, you are likely reviewing the topics and deciding on which three you might select. That’s great! If you would like to prime your thinking prior to our conversations next week, you can click on each link to review related resources. Discussion questions for topics 1-4 are centered on sharing our experience, benefits/challenges, methods of implementation, and what support might be needed/helpful throughout the process.

Please note that the link for Breakout room 5 (Sharing our Experience: Teaching Strategies) goes to a Padlet. We will use this Padlet to organize and share resources/ideas with our community members. You can add strategies/resources on the Padlet prior to our session if wanted, but not expected! You could use your time in the breakout room to share and post if you find that works best for you.

I would like to give a shout out to @Darcy Coonan and @Keisha La Beach for facilitating discussion regarding the WIDA ELDs and Coaching Models respectively! I am very appreciative that they are open to sharing their fruitful experiences with our community members.
