    Hi All,

Does anyone have any oral language assessments for home language? When determining why a student isn’t progressing or progressing slowly in their English language learning, finding out what their oral home language is like is a great indicator of what could be the barrier, but we are looking for an assessment to help us with this or something we can adapt to our environment.

    Hi Amy,

I’ve used AI in the past to generate reading comprehensions based on the mother tongue of the student to ascertain processing/executive functioning issues etc…

Thanks Luke! That was a great idea, we used Chat GPT Poe to help us come up with some ideas. We also spoke with the counsellor and ended up drawing from the Bilingual Verbal Ability Test (BVAT). We used chat GPT Poe to help write a culturally relevant story for 7 year olds, then AI to find pictures for it, and we’re trialling it with some students before working with a Chinese teacher to convert it isn’t Chinese and then trial that together with the parts of the BVAT.

AI also came up with rubric ideas that we’ll collate to make a scoring board as well.
