Section 4 – Affluent Neglect

Challenges: absent parenting, lack of parent support, parents having to work overseas for their role, parents not informing the school when they are away, students living with nannies/helpers/grandparents. language barriers, parents think schools should offer more after school activities

Relevant – leads to behaviour issues, pressure on sts to participate in activities that they might not want to and the feeling of parents not wanting to spend time with them, push back from parents to provide additional ‘child care’.

Successes – spoke with a dad, explanded that his son felt like he didn’t spend anytime with him , missed his mum and sister, dad ended up spending a week wiht his son during week without walls and the son’s whole demeanour changed. Teacher/Parent workshop or Admin/Parent workshop – helped parents have a better understanding of children’s’ struggles, hihg attendance at digital safety workshops.
