Our conversation covered:
– Using graded readers, though there are many out there, with pros and cons: Epic, RAZ-plus, Renaissance (Accelerated Reader).
– Emphasis is on having parents read to their kids (no matter in Chinese or English) but supplementing it with readers. Following sequence “being read to, reading to self, read to someone, and then record the reading.”
– Practising contextual reading skills: inferential reading, model thinking aloud as we read etc.
